Abstract
Social innovation permeates the socio-economic space and it is one of effective instruments for improving public welfare. It has therefore ignited a growing academic and practical interest.
Hence, the aim of this study is the development of a multiparameter classification of social innovations. To achieve the objective of our research, we developed a definition of social innovations. Social innovations are interpreted as new ideas, opportunities and actions in the social space that increase the possibility of resource exploitation to address economic, social, cultural, and environmental issues. Additionally, five most important measurable parameters were singled out which allow us to classify social innovations according to their functional features. These parameters were the basis for our classification of social innovations. The authors have analyzed 42 social innovations around the world (and Russia in particular). It allows for identifying spheres in the public sector which are less supplied with social innovations. Moreover, the authors set out their vision of the role of social innovation in the prosperity of developed and less developed countries.
The presented multiparemeter classification expands the theory of innovations, and it is the basis for further analysis of social innovations. The practical significance of this study is the possibility of using the multiparameter classification, the main conclusions, and the propositions by government bodies for implementing an effective policy in this field. The study also has practical significance for enhancing the effectiveness of innovators.
