Bedrina E.B.,Tukhtarova E.H.
Abstract
Abstract. The article is devoted to the identification and analysis of the causes of migration from Uzbekistan to Russia. The object of the analysis are factors shaping migration flows. The aim of the research is factors monitoring which allows for assessing their extent and characteristics of influence. On the basis of the analysis and generalization of existing approaches to the definition and classification of migration factors, we have formulated a research methodology, in which all the migration factors are divided into pull and push ones, the combined effect of which forms the cross-country migration flows. According to E.S. Li’s idea the basis of pull and push factors lies in the potential difference of the two countries. So, special attention is paid to inter-country comparing and contrasting. The integrated approach allowed for identifying the dominant factors of migration from Uzbekistan to Russia. Two waves of migration were singled out in the migration flow: ethnic and economic ones; their quantitative and quality characteristics and conditions of origin are presented in the article. As a result of the analysis the following dominant factors of the second wave were identified: demographic, economic, environmental, and networking ones, meaning that the choice of the migration destination strongly depends on the presence of family members or acquaintances there. The findings are confirmed by econometric research. Finally, conclusions were made about the nature of the factors influencing the formation of migration flows from Uzbekistan to Russia. The research enables one to understand the peculiarities and essential characteristics of Uzbek migration and can serve as a basis for taking measures for regulating and controlling the migration flows and can be also used for predictive assessments.
